I came back to piano as an adult after having not played for over 15 years. Alicia, as a truly gifted pianist and teacher, absolutely reignited my love for piano and music generally. She tailors her teaching techniques to suit each individual student and has amazing ability to explain complicated concepts in simple terms. Alicia combines the best aspects of traditional and modern teaching methods meaning that my lessons are always well balanced and progress is always being made.

About my teaching

I currently teach at Honeywell Junior School, Greenwich Music School and privately, teaching all ages including secondary school age and adults from beginner to diploma level. I prepare students for grade examinations, concerts, music festivals, concertos and competitions, inspiring and challenging them in a friendly, innovative and positive environment whilst developing their love for music. As well as technical proficiency, I aim to nurture well-rounded confident musicians in a flexible and pro-active approach, incorporating a balanced curriculum centred around each student’s learning style, needs, interests and aspirations. I value high achievement in all areas and have had many students pass grade examinations with excellent results, as well as several winning prizes in competitions. Growing a warm, honest and supportive relationship with students and parents is of utmost importance to me. Being aware of the demands of teaching high achieving students, I also regularly communicate with students and parents to ensure we are working in a way that will enable them to succeed to their fullest potential whilst caring for their wellbeing. I also introduce the practice of mindfulness techniques into my lessons as a practice and performance tool.

In addition to teaching, I am a Furthering Talent Mentor with Awards for Young Musicians, where I guide and advise talented young musicians. I was also recently invited to adjudicate the Bristol Grammar School Piano Festival, where I held a masterclass for category prize winners and performed at the Winner’s concert.

Alicia is an absolutely superb & 100% reliable piano teacher, very patient and kind, but also goal driven. Our 9-year-old has formed a really strong and positive teacher-student relationship with Alicia in regular weekly lessons. Also, her clear written weekly guidance on regular ‘home practice & exam syllabus coverage’ means that our 9-year-old does what is necessary without our constant parental reminding. All four of our children have learnt with different teachers over the past ten years and Alicia’s teaching approach ranks at the very top of that range. Very highly recommended.

Alicia has been teaching my daughter for three years, taking her from the beginning through two grades and beyond. She is patient, firm and encouraging and has done wonders for my daughter’s confidence and technique.

Alicia is a fantastic teacher to both my children, having taught them since they were 6 years old (now they are 8 and 10). Alicia’s strength is to make learning the piano fun, at the same time as giving the children clear direction and lots of encouragement, especially when they have been taking their piano exams. It’s the perfect learning environment.
